AMUSE-BOUCHE INTERVENTIONS
OUTDOOR & PARTY ENCOUNTERs

National Portrait gallery_dating

gallery / dating tours

Together with Artist Catherine Hoffmann and Timberlina we created a dating service for attending punters en route by re-imagining the gallery walls as an online space, more specifically a dating site. Together we inspected the profiles (as well as those of passers-by) lining the walls and revealing what happened on some of those romantic mis-adventures along the way.

Bouche a oreille

Bouche à Oreille

Wearing a large hat, I invite audience members to talk me through their latest gossips, as well as performing a spoken word piece around gossip, whispering and utterance.  The specially-made outfit allows people to come under a black lace veil with me, creating a very intimate secretive place that is cut off from the rest of the world.

A DESSERT FOR ANNA

Here I pay tribute to Anna Pavlova, the Russian Ballet dancer. She was so famous they named a desert after her, the greatest honour in ballet!

I offer spoonfuls of the pudding along with a chance to really listen to the music with the most opulent of desserts. Each spoonful of the delicious dessert is accompanied by Anna Pavlova's signature tune from The Dying Swan played on headphones. This walk about piece operates as a chance spectacle viewed from afar as well as providing each participant a truly unique one on one experience.

"A surprisingly gentle and tasty amuse-bouche, lovingly and engagingly delivered by Tom Marshman in the midst of a raucous and frantic festival site."
Claire Teasdale, The Bristol Do

THE COMPLIMENT BICYCLE

This activity is a solo performance where I (the lone cyclist) ride around the city shouting, speaking and whispering compliments at pedestrians as they go about their daily lives. For example ‘great shoes’, ‘that sandwich looks tasty’.

However credit will only be given where credit is due. If a person or scenario is less than appealing the compliment bicycle will remain silent and pedal on. The compliment bicycle is a one man charm machine.

TEA LEAF READINGS
(FOR BEGINNERS)

I think you can tell a lot by the way someone drinks their tea... I have been reading a book called Tea Leaf Reading for Beginners and think there might be something in it.

So I want to help you predict your future. Will you find true love? Will you get that promotion you so want or will someone buy you your favourite object of desire? We can do on the spot character assessments, plus you get to have a cup of tea and a sit down.

MARTINI READINGS

I think you can tell a lot by the way someone drinks their Martini. Do you like yours extra dry? Do you leave the olive? Do you knock it back or sip it slowly?

These are signs that I interpret to reveal your inner personality. Whilst you enjoy your martini I observe and return to impart a heady mix of psychobabble, martinis and mysticism, all done precariously on rollers blades.
